Self-esteem and identity, a steadier relationship with yourself

This covers two connected things. One is the harsh inner voice that says you’re not good enough. The other is not being sure who you are anymore, often after a big change. Neither is a flaw in you. Both are shaped by experience, and both can shift.

Self-Esteem & Identity

You don’t have to have it all figured out to start treating yourself with more compassion.

Some people notice

You don’t need to tick every box. One or two that feel familiar is reason enough to reach out.

  • A harsh inner voice that’s hard to quiet
  • Not recognizing the version of yourself you’ve become
  • Putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own, by default
  • Feeling like you have to earn your place, over and over
  • Comparing yourself to others and always coming up short
  • Feeling unsure of who you are, or disconnected from your sense of self

The questions people ask

Do I need to know what’s wrong first?

No. Not being able to name it is a common place to start. The first conversation is for working that out together.

How long does this take?

Everyone’s different. There’s no fixed timeline. Every few sessions we check in together and adjust.

Could this be something else?

Sometimes. It can be part of something else, like depression, anxiety, or trauma. We’ll figure that out together, and shift into the right support if so.

What kind of therapy would we use?

We might draw on EFT (understanding the emotions underneath a harsh inner voice or a shaken sense of self), self-compassion work (building a kinder relationship with yourself, especially in moments of struggle), or CBT (shifting the thought patterns that keep the harsh voice going).
