Couples counselling for the distance that crept in

Coming in as a couple takes courage. Maybe distance has crept in, the same fight keeps repeating, or you’re not sure where things stand anymore. Whatever brought you here, this is a steady place to start, together. The free 15-minute call is for both of you, on speaker.

Couples & Relationships

Reconnection rarely starts with fixing everything. It starts with one honest conversation.

Some people notice

You don’t need to tick every box. One or two that feel familiar is reason enough to reach out.

  • More silence than conversation lately
  • Shorter tempers, quicker to snap
  • Less reaching for each other, physically or otherwise
  • Feeling more like roommates than partners
  • Not sure if you want to stay together, and that’s okay to admit
  • The same argument on repeat, with no resolution in sight

The questions people ask

Is the free call for both of us?

Yes. Put the phone on speaker. Your clinician will ask what’s going on, say what a first session looks like and what it costs, and you decide together. No form, no card.

Why do we meet separately after the first session?

After the first joint session we meet each of you once on your own. We’re not there to pick a side. It just helps us hear each of you properly. Your clinician will explain how they handle what each of you shares.

What if we’re not sure we want to stay together?

That’s normal, and saying so out loud is a fine place to start. We won’t push you either way. If it helps, we can offer a short, structured set of sessions to get clear on what you each want before committing to anything.

How many sessions do couples usually have?

It varies. Many couples come every week or two for a stretch, then less often. Every few sessions we check in on whether it’s helping, and you can stop at any time.

Is couples therapy covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover it under the same counselling or social work benefit as individual sessions, but some plans treat couples work differently. Call the number on your card and ask. We can bill most major insurers directly, so you only pay what your plan doesn’t cover; otherwise you get a receipt after every session.

What kind of therapy would we use?

We might draw on EFT (rebuilding emotional connection after disconnection, hurt, or betrayal) or the Gottman Method (practical tools for recurring conflict and communication patterns). This is shaped around the two of you and checked in on regularly, never locked in from day one.
